Walt Disney World and Disneyland Poised To Increase Ticket Prices

Giving potential guests little notice (as is typical) both Walt Disney World of Florida and Disneyland of California are poised to increase ticket prices beginning tomorrow, Sunday, June 12, 2011. At Disney World, the average increase to the Magic Your Way Tickets amounts to around $2-$3 per day depending on how many days you purchase.

This increase, while not entirely unexpected in the Disney community, does come two months earlier than has been the standard practice of Disney. A look back at the historical price increases shows that August has been the month of choice for annual price increases since 2006, at least for Disney World.

The chart below shows the new adult Walt Disney World Ticket Prices with the ticket option, along with the old price, the new price (set to take effect tomorrow), the dollar increase and the percent increase.

As mentioned before, the announcement of these price increases were not surprising as they have occurred annually for the last several years. However, the depth of the increases have caught many off guard with the longer stay option apparently taking the hardest hit, especially when it comes to Disney World Park Hopper Tickets. Whereas a one day ticket only increased $3 or 3.7% at Disney World, the 10-day option jumped $29 or 11.1%.

This increase removes some of the incentive for staying longer, however, one must still keep in mind the overall cost to add a day or two to your original plans. For instance, those thinking of spending four days in the park would purchase the 4-day Disney World ticket for $243 ($60.75 per day). Increasing that to six days would only adjust the price to $259 ($43.17 per day). Of course, the additional cost of lodging, food, souvenirs, etc. for the extended stay are not figured into those totals.
