Disney

In anticipation of the upcoming new movie release from Disney called Alice in Wonderland, directed by Tim Burton, the Disney Company is sponsoring a great sweepstakes you may want to take advantage of: The Alice In Wonderland Six Impossible Things Sweepstakes.

The movie itself is an adaption of Lewis Carroll’s 1865 novel Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.  You may also recall that Disney created an animated feature from this same storyline that premiered back in 1951.  The live-action remake utilizes the talents of such well-known stars as Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter, Anne Hathaway and Alan Rickman.

The Great Piggy Bank Adventure

by All Things Mouse Staff on January 23, 2010
Walt Disney World

Saving money and vacationing don’t always seem like they would go hand in hand, but that is just what is happening at The Great Piggy Bank Adventure at Epcot in Walt Disney World.  This Innoventions exhibit sponsored by T. Rowe Price helps families learn the basics of saving and investing.  Participants use a cute pink plastic Personal Investment Guide (otherwise known as a P.I.G.) to track their progress through the interactive exhibit.

The variety of games offer a fun and entertaining way for kids to learn important financial planning concepts without realizing they’re being educated and offer an opportunity to open up a dialogue with their parents about what they’ve learned.

Walt Disney World December 2009 Park Hours

by All Things Mouse Staff on December 2, 2009
Walt Disney World

To catch everyone up on the parks hours for WDW, we have added them for this month. We cover all four theme parks (Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Hollywood Studios and Animal Kingdom) as well as for the two water parks (Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon). Extended Magic Hours (EMH).

**Please note the extended hours offered throughout the month, especially those between Christmas and New Years. Obviously, crowd levels will be extremely high, but the hours should help, especially for those willing to go early (some parks are opening at 7AM) or stay late (some nights parks are open until 3 AM).

Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon is closed the month of December for refurbishment. For those wanting a water park experience, Blizzard Beach is slated to be open 10AM-5PM daily. [click to continue…]

Disney Fails to Attain Top Positions For Holiday Movie Weekend

by All Things Mouse Staff on November 29, 2009
Disney Movies

Despite a normally busy holiday weekend at the movies, Disney Company’s offerings failed to garner much of a share.  In fact, it’s top contender only managed to hit fourth place.

Old Dogs was released on Wednesday and took in lowly $24 million dollars domestically.  The film stars John Travolta, Robin Williams, Seth Green and Kelly Preston. Travolta and Williams are cast as the typical 50-somethings who suddenly find themselves taking care of two children with the consequences of their ineptness providing the storyline for the movie.

Right behind Old Dogs in the number five position was Disney’s A Christmas Carol, starring a motion-captured Jim Carrey in the classic Dicken’s tale.  It has been out for three weeks and took in 22.5 million for the five day holiday weekend bringing its all time domestic gross to over $105 million. With Christmas season just hitting its stride, Disney is banking on the tale of Scrooge to continue to show well.

One big reason Disney failed to do well is the teen girl drama The Twilight Saga: The New Moon which features a vampire plot.  As a sequel it is doing quite well taking in almost $66 million for the holiday weekend in its second week out.

Also getting a very respectable showing was The Blind Side starring Sandra Bullock in a sports story.  It came in at $57.5 million and appears to have found a place in the adult movie-goers heart.

Walt Disney World

With Thanksgiving just around the corner, Walt Disney World is in full holiday swing with Christmas trees, lights and other decorations adorning all the parks and resorts.

Holiday decorating is nothing new for the World.  They have been doing so basically since it opened in the 70’s, and it seems each year something new is added, or something is changed to make a more unique experience for the annual visitors.
