The Walt Disney Company confirmed plans this week for a Disney Vacation Club expansion to take place at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and Spa. An estimated 147 time-share units will be built at the Grand Floridian in a separate building from the rest of the resort.

This new Disney Vacation Club addition is expected to open in late 2013 with groundbreaking planned soon. Due to open its doors in the fall of 2011, and currently under construction, the Disney Hawaiian Resort has been officially given the name of Aulani : A Disney Resort & Spa. Consisting of 21 acres, which will include 360 hotel rooms and 481 Disney Vacation Club Villas, the resort marks the first Vacation Club destination outside of the continental United States and only the second to not be located near one of the company’s theme parks.
The term “Aulani” comes from the local Hawaiian language and means either “the place that speaks for the great ones” or “the place that speaks with deep messages.” Either definition conveys Disney’s intent to tie the resort into the history and customs of the Hawaiian culture. Unless they extend it, as of today, there are only seven days left for prospective vacationers to book the free dining still being offered this for this fall. The promotion kicked off in July when it was first offered to Disney Visa Card holders, and was opened and expanded after to offer it to all.
