With Johnny Depp in full costume, the Disney corporation announced last week that there would be a Pirates of the Caribbean 4 movie entitled ‘On Stranger Tides.”  The news came out during the D23 Expo to an estimated crowd of 5,000.

Johnny Depp is slated to play the part of Captain Jack Sparrow again, but the rest of the possible storyline was left a bit fuzzy.  As of right now, Kiera Knightley and Orlando Bloom are not going to be in the cast so the story will definitely be going in another direction.

Rumors have it that the plot will be much more character driven and less special effects will be involved.  Also, some have the story taking place in the newly founded New Orleans where Sparrow meets Barbossa for an adventure to find the Fountain of Youth.

Whatever the movie is about, it is certain producer Jerry Bruckheimer is at the reigns.

While many have had their own negative feelings about the last couple of movies, you have to give credit when it is due.  All of the series were huge blockbusters.

The first installment, “Curse of the Black Pearl”, took in over $650 million world-wide.  “Dead Man’s Chest” take was over a billion dollars and “At World’s End” was just under a billion.  All of that was just the theater revenue, so add in DVD sales, merchandising, etc. and you can see why it makes business sense to continue the series.

Hopefully the new movie will do the series justice as the series definitely has strong ties to Walt Disney.  He was instrumental in creating the original ride in DisneyLand that inspired the movies.
