Previews have begun for the Pirates of the Caribbean: The Legend of Captain Jack Sparrow attraction at Disney’s Hollywood Studios of the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida. Official opening of the attraction is scheduled for December 6, 2012.
Some guests have already been able to take the walk-through as Disney completes the final touches before the grand opening. The attraction is located between Toy Story Mania! and the Walt Disney: One Man’s Dream exhibit in Soundstage 4, the former location of Journey into Narnia.
“The Legend of Captain Jack Sparrow is an immersive theatrical experience in which our guests will actually get to follow in the footsteps of Captain Jack himself to see if they have what it takes to be pirates and be members of his crew,” states Walt Disney Imagineer Jason Surrell. ” They are guided through this adventure by this dis-embodied talking skull and he puts them through their paces and allows them to face all the trials of a pirates life.”
Involved in the creation of the new attraction was actor Johnny Depp. He played the original Captain Jack Sparrow in the Pirates of the Caribbean mega-movie franchise which has spawned four very successful movies (with a fifth rumored to be on the way).
The Pirates of the Caribbean franchise was itself based on a classic Disney attraction of the same name. That attraction is a boat-ride through a pirate themed scene that was first unveiled in Disneyland in 1967. For more information, see Disneyland’s Pirates of the Caribbean. (It is also the last attraction which Walt Disney himself participated in the design of before his death.)
Guests in the new attraction will walk-though the world of the Pirates of the Caribbean complete with authentic looking props. All to see if they have the makings of a true pirate like the famous Captain Jack Sparrow himself!
