Perhaps no other attraction at Disney Parks can evoke the feelings of past and current guests as “it’s a small world.” Sure, a few say they despise it but most at least appreciate the enjoyment it offers along with the global message.
That message of international unity and the attraction showcasing it is about to celebrate its 50th anniversary. Disney is acknowledging the momentous birthday with the website SmallWorld50.com and other events such as cast members at Disney Parks around the world uniting in song on Thursday April 10, 2014, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the attraction.
“it’s a small world” was originally created and opened as part of the UNICEF pavilion sponsored by Pepsi at the 1964 New York World’s Fair. It was one of four major attractions created by Disney and WED Enterprises for the fair (the other three being Magic Skyway sponsored by Ford, Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln sponsored by state of Illinois, and The Carousel of Progress sponsored by GE.
After the closing of the fair, the attraction was moved to Disneyland in California. Recreations have also been built at the Magic Kingdom of Walt Disney World, Tokyo Disneyland, Disneyland Park in Paris, Hong Kong Disneyland and will also be featured at the Shanghai Disneyland Park.
For those that don’t remember the ride, a YouTube® video by EvanTubeHD is offered above.
