Like the Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights reviewed last week, Epcot’s Candlelight Processional is another holiday tradition at Walt Disney World of Florida that is not to be missed by many. This review and video of the Candlelight Processional hopes to give readers a glimpse into the show and why it is loved by about all who attend it.

The Candlelight Processional is offered nightly at the American Gardens Theater of Epcot starting around Thanksgiving and running through the end of the year. It involves a famous guest narrator telling the story of Christmas with a 50-piece orchestra and a mass choir providing holiday music interludes.

Narrators vary each year but several have made repeat appearances in the show year after year. Typically, a narrator is featured for several nights in a row before a new narrator replaces them.

As an example, a listing of the 2011 narrators is offered below as provided by the Disney Company along with the nights they were scheduled for:

11/25–11/27 — Mira Sorvino
11/28–12/01 — Michael W. Smith
12/02–12/03 — Geena Davis
12/04–12/06 — Edward James Olmos (12/04 – 6:45 p.m. & 8:15 p.m. shows only)
12/07–12/09 — Isabella Rossellini
12/10–12/12 — Neil Patrick Harris
12/13–12/15 — Lorraine Bracco
12/16–12/18 — Chita Rivera
12/19–12/21 — Trace Adkins
12/22–12/24 — Susan Lucci
12/25–12/27 — Blair Underwood
12/28–12/30 — Marlee Matlin

The show is offered three times nightly at 5:00 p.m., 6:45 p.m., 8:15 p.m. Despite the American Gardens Theater holding many, the theater does fill up well in advance. In fact, guests are known to stand in line waiting to get in for quite some time.

Those guests who would not rather wait as long for a seat may want to consider booking a Candlelight Dinner Package. Package prices range from $32.99-$64.99 per person including an appetizer, entrée, dessert and non-alcoholic beverage or one full buffet at those restaurants offering that option. Participating restaurants include:

  • Biergarten Restaurant
  • Coral Reef Restaurant
  • The Garden Grill Restaurant (dinner only)
  • La Hacienda de San Angel (dinner only)
  • Les Chefs de France
  • Le Cellier Steakhouse (lunch only)
  • Nine Dragons Restaurant
  • Restaurant Marrakesh
  • Rose & Crown Pub & Dining Room
  • San Angel Inn
  • Teppan Edo
  • Tokyo Dining
  • Tutto Italia Ristorante
  • Via Napoli

Packages include VIP seating for the Candlelight Processional along with pre-arranged viewing of Illuminations. Of course, your specific seating is not reserved so it is still prudent to arrive early for the best seats.

Still, for those looking for a unique Christmas experience at Walt Disney World, there may be no better option than the Candlelight Processional.
