Disney’s Pop Century Resort is one of Walt Disney World’s Value Resorts located within the boundaries of the massive Florida theme park area. Pop Century has quickly grown to become the favorite of many Disney guests seeking the benefits of staying on-property while still making the most of their budget.

The resort opened for business on December 14, 2003 and features ten colorfully decorated four story buildings which house the 2,880 rooms that the complex offers. Pop Century is segmented into five different themed areas representing the “classic years” of the 1950s through the 1990s.

Massive icons of those years are placed throughout the resort to remind one of those periods. For instance, the 1950’s section contains bowling pin staircases, Lady and the Tramp statues, 45 RPM records, transistor radios a jukebox and a bowling pin shaped pool.

To identify the 60’s section, Disney uses Yo-yo staircases, flowers and peace symbols, Jungle Book statues and images of Play-Doh. The 70’s are differentiated by 8-track tape staircases, a Mickey Mouse Phone and a four-story tall Big Wheel.

Those looking for the 80’s section need find the Rubik’s Cube staircases, Roger Rabbit and Mr. Potato Head statues and images of Pac-Man. Finally, the 90’s are shown with cell phone staircases, computers and roller blades.

The Pop Century Resort offers three different pool areas spread throughout the complex – the main flower-shaped Hippy Dippy Pool, the smaller bowling pin-shaped Bowling Pool and the monitor-shaped Computer Pool. These pools are open for any Pop Century guests to use even if your room is not located near that area.

Located in the Classic Hall are the Front Desk for checking in and checking out, Concierge Services, an arcade and the Everything Pop shop and food court. The food court houses several different stations which each feature different cuisines to fit your pallet.

Walt Disney World bus service is offered which provides guests free transportation to the four main theme parks of Disney World (Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Disney’s Animal Kingdom) along with the two water parks (Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach) and Downtown Disney. Guests can catch the buses in front of Classic Hall.

When originally planned, a Legendary Years section was to be built across the lake. This plan was scrapped reportedly owing to falling reservation numbers following the September 11, 2001 attacks. However, a new Art of Animation Resort is going up in its place with a projected opening of 2012.

Many guests who have stayed at Pop Century like it for its theming and bus service (which is perceived to be better than the other value resorts).
