Loved by adults and kids alike, Muppet*Vision 3-D at Disney’s Hollywood Studios of Walt Disney World is perhaps one of the funnier attractions that you can find in a theme park. It is based on Jim Henson’s Muppets that many have grown-up watching on television and even in some movies.
The attraction first opened on May 16, 1991, a few years after Hollywood Studios itself opened. Those looking to take in Muppet*Vision will need to head to the Backlot area of the park.
As the name of the attraction indicates, it is a 3-D movie that is presented in a theater. Before you sit down for the movie, expect a little pre-show entertainment provided in the queue area. Then, the cast members will allow you to enter the theater which many will find reminds them of the theater shown in the television series “The Muppet Show.”
Once sitting, you don your 3-d glasses and the movie begins. Your host Kermit the Frog greets you after a short conversation with Gonzo. Kermit talks about the facility they are in where they have perfected “Muppet*Vision 3-D.” Guests are informed on what the show will be like, but in true Muppet fashion, nothing goes as planned.
Kermit starts the tour of the facility and introduces Dr. Bunsen Honeydew and his assistant Beaker who “created” the new technology. While showing the contraption responsible for Muppet*Vision, Waldo (the spirit of 3-D) is created. From there, more hilarious 3-D antics are shown before Honeydew tries to de-activate Waldo.
Unable to stop Waldo, more frivolity occurs until the end of the show with Waldo appearing several times along the way. Aside from the movie, audio-animatronics are also included as part of the show leading many to call this a 4-D attraction.
All in all, this is a worthwhile experience that should please everyone in the family.
