Continuing the All Things Mouse series of Reviews and Videos of the attractions and resorts of Walt Disney World, we now come across the first moderate level resort to be built on property – Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort. Those liking an island theme will be right at home at the Caribbean Beach Resort at it embodies that tropical feel.

As previously mentioned, the Caribbean Beach Resort is a moderate level on-property establishment. In addition to the standard fare of a comfortable room, quick service dining options, pools, etc. found at the value level resorts like Pop Century, a moderate typically also has a sit-down restaurant, a hot tub, a themed pool area with slide and what most would consider lusher landscaping.

Guests checking into the Caribbean Beach will first stop at the Custom House. This is the location of the front desk and bell services. Once checked in, you will be driven to your room which is but one of 2,112 at the resort. Each room is approximately 340 square feet which is actually the largest room size of all of the moderate resorts.

Inside you will find two double beds or one king bed. Standard theming is Caribbean style with pastel tones linked to the “island” your room is grouped in. Disney has also added some Finding Nemo theming to those rooms, albeit rather muted. Those looking for a bolder theme will want to choose one of the pirate rooms, but prepare to pay more for the opportunity to stay there.

Wandering around the resort, you will find the buildings are grouped into the “islands” or “villages” of Martinique, Barbados, Jamaica, Aruba, Trinidad North, and Trinidad South. Each village has its own standard fair pool with a few even having a playground.

Those looking for the themed pool area will need to head to the center of attention of the resort which is Old Port Royale. Here is where you will find all of the other guest amenities of the resort including boat rentals, the arcade, gift shops and the quick service dining experience known as Old Port Royale Food Court.

In addition, the sit-down restaurant of the complex is found here which is called Shutter’s. Outside by the pool, a walk-up bar is offered for those evening drinks.

Guests looking for a relaxing stay at an on-property resort a bit off the beaten path will likely love the Caribbean Beach. It is large, but manageable for most.
