As previously announced, Disney’s Art of Animation Resort had its grand opening. The newest value resort member of Walt Disney World officially opened its doors on May 31, 2012 and will feature four sections all themed to one of four animated Disney classic movies.
With this opening, the common areas including the check in desk, food court, arcade, one pool, etc. are all available for use. Additional facilities will become available as more of the resort opens to the public later this summer.
Disney’s Art of Animation Resort is located directly across Hourglass Lake from Disney’s Pop Century Resort. Like Pop Century, the Art of Animation Resort is a value level resort.
However, unlike Pop Century, a majority of the rooms at the Art of Animation will be family suites. These suites sleep six individuals and includes two separate bathrooms.
When entirely completed, the resort will have 1,120 suites and 864 standard rooms. The suites will all be found in one of three sections – Finding Nemo (which is currently open), Cars (opening June 18) and the Lion King (opening August 10).
The standard rooms will all be located in the fourth section, the Little Mermaid. This section is not scheduled to open until September 15, 2012.
As for amenities, Art of Animation includes the “Landscape of Flavors” Food Court. Serving breakfast, lunch and dinner daily, the food court has five different shops offering a variety of options.
The Ink and Paint Shop is the shopping area for the resort. It offers the standard Disney merchandise along with any basic sundries that guests may require.
