While those who participate in the Walt Disney World Marathon may say that the reward of running in the world itself is enough, Disney plans on sweetening the incentive a bit.
The Disney Company announced that those who participate in the marathon and receive a finisher medal may present that medal at the ticket gates of any of the Walt Disney World Parks the Monday following the race and receive free admission. Disney has coined the term “Marathon Monday” for the special offer.
The Marathon is scheduled for January 9, 2010 making the 10th the day for “Marathon Monday.” Registration is still available for the event and costs $135. Those signing up get several benefits including being able to participate in the race and the chance for the free park entry. Some of these include a Commemorative Champion® Race Tech Shirt and a goody bad along with special event entertainment and transportation.
All four Walt Disney World theme parks are part of the 26.2 mile race course. It starts in Epcot, then goes to the Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom and Hollywood Studios before returning to Epcot for the finish.
The marathon had its inaugural year in 1994 and has been drawing thousands of entrants annually ever since. Walt Disney World also offers a half marathon, Goofy’s Race and a Half Challenge, Disney’s Family Fun Run 5K, Mickey’s Marathon Kids’ Fest and a Health and Fitness Expo all tied in with the standard marathon.
Those wishing to register for the event can do so on the Disney website.
Disney is also offering entrants the chance to vote on what the finisher medals will look like. That also is offered on the Disney site.
