March 2011

The Park Hours for April 2011 are now available for both Disneyland and California Adventure. While many may not consider the month an ideal time to visit, others flock to the park during April to take advantage of the more moderate temperatures as well as the Easter breaks offered to many students. Also, as can be noticed from the park hours listed below, there really is a lot of time during each day when the park’s are open offering the flexibility in schedules that many desire.

Shown on the calendar below are the hours for both parks as well as the Morning Magic Hours (MMH) for Disneyland. Those unfamiliar with Morning Magic Hours may have heard of Disney World’s similar Extra Magic Hours. However, unlike Disney World, the MMH at Disneyland are offered only on select mornings and never in the evening. Additional details of MMH include:

Walt Disney World has released the October 2011 Park Hours which will be of interest to many as they are appearing later than previous months hours were posted. Those hours are shown below and cover the four main theme parks – Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

Also offered in the schedules below are the Extended Magic Hours (EMH) for the theme parks of Walt Disney World. Extended Magic Hours are times when select guests (like those who are staying at one of the many Disney Resort Hotels) are allowed to enter up to one hour early before the normal park opening or stay up to three hours later past the normal park closing. During that time, many of the attractions stay open allowing guests better access to those attractions with typically shorter lines.

Not included in the listings are the hours for the two water parks of Walt Disney World – Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach. However, those hours are known as well and are listed at 10AM-5PM everyday for both parks. The exception to this is October 30th and 31st which lists Typhoon Lagoon as down for refurbishment.

It should be noted that while not specifically stated in the calendar yet, October will see several offerings of the special Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party held during the month of October. Last year saw a total of sixteen different days when the party was held at the Magic Kingdom starting at 7PM. This will also explain why for an above average number of days that month that the Magic Kingdom will be closing to normal guests at 7PM. Past that time, and guests will need to have purchased a ticket to the special party.

All Things Mouse offers two different formats for the park hours of Walt Disney World. The first is a calendar view with the hours of each park shown for each day. The second is a list view with each park separated and its operating hours shown for each day below it.

To find Park Hours for other months, see the All Things Mouse Disney Park Hours page. Disneyland Hours are also available there.

Disney Movies

Classic Disney lovers know well the story of Bambi – the sixth full-length animated feature released by Disney back in 1942. It follows the story of a young deer, Bambi, who is forced to grow up in the wild without his mother who was shot by hunters.

What many do not know is the enhanced capabilities available in conjunction with the new Bambi Blu-Ray™ release from earlier this month. It introduces a new interactive feature known as “Disney Second Screen” in which users are offered additional Bambi related material as they watch the Blu-Ray movie. While most people tend to visit Walt Disney World to get away from the hustle and bustle of the real world and relax, a few who visit The American Idol Experience at Disney’s Hollywood Studios will actually get the opportunity to participate in a nationwide talent contest.

Now, anyone who has not heard of American Idol must not watch any TV or talk to anyone at work. The extremely popular television show dates back to 2002 and has gone one to “discover” many talented acts including Kelly Clarkson, Clay Aiken, Fantasia Barrino, Jennifer Hudson, Carrie Underwood, Chris Daughtry and Jordin Sparks, among many others. It uses the popularity of the acts with the audience as a determining factor in who stays along with the input of three ‘professional’ judges.

Now those ambitious enough to compete will not get to see the likes of Paula Abdul or Simon Cowell at their Disney World experience, but they will have to impress some behind the scenes officials before they will even be allowed the opportunity to perform on stage. Those interested in this option will want to head in immediately at park opening as the slots for performances during the day do fill up fast. Operated only seasonally now, Sounds Dangerous Starring Drew Carey in Disney’s Hollywood Studios originally opened on April 22, 1999. The twelve minute show runs continuously when operating , but check park maps to verify times.

Unlike most attractions at Walt Disney World, the Sounds Dangerous Starring Drew Carey attraction is one you will want to definitely guess the appropriateness for your young children. It is not that the attraction is inherently bad for kids, it is just the fact that a majority of it takes place in the dark which many children find frightening.

The premise of the show starts off that you are the audience participating on a soundstage where the taping of a new reality style detective show is being filmed. Drew Carey plays the bumbling detective who is geared with a tiny video camera and microphones which will allow the audience to see and hear everything that Carey’s character experiences as he attempts to solve the case. Another original attraction that was first shown on the opening day of Disney’s Hollywood Studios is The Great Movie Ride. This momentous event occurred on May 1, 1989.

However, unlike the Studio Backlot Tour previously reviewed, the Great Movie Ride has remained relatively unchanged. Now some would consider the ride stagnant because of it, but many would agree that its comparatively static history is owed more to it being a classic attraction built to withstand the fads of more recent times.

The Great Movie Ride attraction  of Walt Disney World is housed in a recreation of the famous and historic Grauman’s Chinese Theater of Hollywood which has been home to numerous movie premiers since opening over eighty years ago. Once inside the theater doors, guests are led through a roped queue leading past some famous movie props which at times have included a carousel horse from Mary Poppins and the ruby slippers from the Wizard of Oz.
